Child Safety Week

Child Safety Week

Child Safety Week in the UK is an annual campaign run by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to raise awareness of the risks of child accidents and how they can be prevented.

In 2025, Child Safety Week will take place from Monday, June 2nd to Sunday, June 8th.

The theme for Child Safety Week 2025 is “Safety is for sharing”. This theme emphasizes the importance of sharing expert safety advice with as many people as possible to help families build confidence and skills in managing the real risks to children’s safety.

Key aspects of Child Safety Week:

  • Awareness Raising: The primary goal is to highlight the dangers children face and provide practical advice on how to minimize these risks.
  • Community Engagement: The week encourages individuals, families, schools, and organizations across the UK to participate in safety conversations and activities.
  • Resource Provision: CAPT provides a range of free resources, including fact sheets, posters, social media packs, and activity ideas, to support these conversations and events.
  • Focus on Preventable Accidents: The campaign addresses common causes of serious injury and death in children, emphasizing that many accidents are preventable.

The theme “Safety is for sharing” in 2025 encourages everyone to:

  • Share CAPT’s social media posts on various platforms.
  • Distribute their fact sheets to families.
  • Display their posters in relevant settings.

While the overarching theme is “Safety is for sharing,” specific daily themes and focuses within the week often highlight particular areas of risk. For example, past campaigns and resources have emphasised:

  • Burns and Scalds: Hot drinks are a major cause of preventable injuries in young children.
  • Button Batteries: The dangers of ingestion and the need for safe storage.
  • Blind Cords: The strangulation risk and the importance of safe cord management.
  • Dog Safety: Understanding dog behavior and ensuring safe interactions between children and dogs.
  • Road Safety: Educating children and adults about safe pedestrian and passenger practices.
  • Water Safety: Risks around drowning and how to stay safe near water.
  • Fire Safety: Prevention measures and what to do in case of a fire.
  • Online Safety: Protecting children from online risks and promoting safe internet use.
  • Choking Hazards: Identifying and keeping small objects away from young children.
  • Falls: Preventing falls in the home and other environments.
  • Poisoning: Safe storage of medications and household chemicals.

You can get involved in Child Safety Week 2025 by:

  • Downloading and sharing the free resources from the CAPT website.
  • Using the hashtag #ChildSafetyWeek on social media.
  • Organising safety-themed activities in your community or workplace.
  • Educating yourself and others about potential child safety hazards.

Child Safety Week serves as a crucial reminder that by working together and sharing knowledge, we can create a safer environment for all children in the UK. For more information Contact us
