Tennis

Tennis,as Wimbledon draws ever closer to crowning this year’s men’s and women’s champions. Our own mini champions are practicing both their ball skills, hand-eye coordination, and their fine motor skills. Whilst Ok we are not on “Centre Court”, it is always important to remember that these skills have to start somewhere, and practice makes perfect.

Hand-eye coordination is a cornerstone of child development, and in Stretch-n-Grow classes, we bring it to life through purposeful play and movement-based learning.

What Is Hand-Eye Coordination?

It’s the ability to process visual information and respond with precise physical movement. For children, this means being able to:

  • Catch, throw, or kick a ball
  • Stack blocks or complete puzzles
  • Draw, write, or use tools with control

These skills are essential for both academic readiness and physical confidence.

How Stretch-n-Grow Builds It

We embed hand-eye coordination into every session using:

  • Tossing and catching games that improve timing and reaction
  • Obstacle courses that require reaching, aiming, and navigating space
  • Relay races and partner activities that encourage teamwork and object handling
  • Themed adventures (like “Treasure Hunt Toss” or “Space Shuttle Launch”) that make coordination challenges exciting and imaginative

We also use props like beanbags, scarves, hoops, and soft balls to keep activities safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.

Why It Matters

Strong hand-eye coordination supports:

  • Fine motor development (writing, cutting, dressing)
  • Gross motor skills (sports, climbing, dancing)
  • Cognitive growth through pattern recognition and spatial awareness
  • Confidence and independence in everyday tasks

And because we teach through fun, children don’t even realize they’re building such a critical skill—they’re just having a blast.
